Quixotic Bio
When not reading or writing, two essentials for author and journalist Tamryn Spruill, she can be found playing various musical instruments and composing tunes, such as the theme song for her women’s basketball podcast, The Hard Screen. Outside of the rare professional-sounding tune of THS, Spruill mostly dabbles in a slapdash, off-kilter genre of quixotic soundlings she calls Electro Junkyard Pop.
Spruill also collects things: women’s basketball memorabilia, Hello Kitty memorabilia, books and myriad art supplies and materials for her collaging craft. Her “Woman of the World,” a collage sculpture, was commissioned for book cover art by poet Elizabeth Kropf.
She loves pretending she’s a Top Chef, and chopping veggies soothes her soul. But don’t let the Hello Kitty Funko Pop or the bohemian artsy blood coursing through her veins fool you. Notoriously competitive, Tamryn will accept any one-on-one challenge when provoked and show no mercy to an opponent (kids not exempt) while kicking your ass.
A long-time proponent of naps since the siestas of her Italian upbringing, Tamryn, to this day, prioritizes midday sleep. She says her brain functions best when the rest of the world is asleep. She is both a night owl and an early bird and wouldn’t have it any other way.
