Evolution: Razor to Pen
Artist's Statement
There is a mood to be captured in rich color, but more so in how the lifeline/death line interacts with the paint. Under razor, the lifeline opens and releases a paint of its own, leading to death. Under paint, intact veins serve as pathways for endless beauty. The series is about evolution from destruction (lifeline under a razor's blade) to construction (lifeline under the sensual touch of paint) -- and how life or death comes down to the selection of a lightweight instrument: razor or pen (or paintbrush). In art, there is no room for perfection. Perfection = finite; finite = death. The way botox erases laugh lines from a person's face, freezing them solid as if through embalming. Rough edges represent boundlessness -- the way the ocean appears endless from any shore. -Tamryn Spruill |
